PCs To The People!

"Giving The Gift Of Technology"
Make a difference in someone's life by donating your used or unneeded computer equipment to those less fortunate.

So what is PCs To The People?

The PCs to the People program began in 2001 as a joint initiative with the Athens County Department of Job & Family Services and Hocking College to provide low-income Athens County residents with personal computers. Today, the PCs to the People program operates without collaborative support and serves low-income residents throughout the ReUse service area.

In 2003, ReUse Industries received financial and volunteer assistance to renovate its computer refurbishing center in Albany. The updated center provides added storage space, new tools, streamlined work areas, and a new office. The increased capacity of the computer refurbishing center allowed ReUse to expand its PCs to the People program in 2004.

How Does It Work?

ReUse Industries collects donations of used computers and components, which will be cleaned and repaired (if necessary) on site, then put on sale to the public at a fraction of the cost new. The program is available to all area residents who meet the income qualifications. Eligible PCs to the People clients receive a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and Pentium III or better CPU with a Microsoft authorized operating system.

Eligible Income Limits

Size of Family Monthly Income
1 $1,702
2 $2,282
3 $2,862
4 $3,442
5 $4,022
6 $4,602
7 $5,182
8 $5,762

Why Is This Important?

Studies have shown that individuals with computer skills are much more likely to attain gainful employment, typically at a much higher level of pay than those without these skills. By providing access to computer technology, donors will be increasing the quality of life for their friends and neighbors, stimulating the local economy and aiding the environment.
