Community Yard Sale Recap

Our second annual Community Yard Sale was a great success this year! We worked in conjunction with Vinton County, which was having its own County-wide yard sale on June 2. The front yard of our Albany location was filled with vendors from in and around Vinton County. We had 21 vendors overall, and they all brought really wonderful items to sell. Through the course of the yard sale, over 400 bargain-hunters came to peruse the yard sale items as well as the rest of our Albany location.

AmeriCorps*VISTA Duane Bogart, who organized this wonderful event, would like to thank Brandi Boggs at the Vinton County Chamber of Commerce, Christy Steele of Sojourners, Constantine Faller of Athens' Own, Pata Sabatino and Jume Risner for providing food, Diamond Quarry for their donation of sand, White's Mill and Dave Brenner for providing flowers, Bedrock Rentals, and all of the wonderful vendors and shoppers who helped to make this event a success!

Creative Reuse

The folks over at Treehugger have found a very interesting way to reuse those plastic CD spindles that CD-Rs typically come in.

In other news..

We recently realized that we never got around to posting pictures from our Community Yard Sale, which happened the day before OU Student Moveout. So, expect pictures from the yard sale this week!

GoodSearch for ReUse

This is just a reminder that you can donate money- at no cost to yourself- to ReUse Industries every time you search the internet! GoodSearch, a Yahoo! powered search engine, donates a penny to ReUse Industries every time you search an item on their site. Just make sure to designate ReUse Industries as the charity you would like to support. Remember, ReUse couldn't do the work we do without support from our community!

OU Student Move-Out

Ohio University Student Move-Out is finally over. From June 4 through June 13, ReUse Industries employees and AmeriCorps*VISTAs worked extremely hard to salvage as many reusable items as possible from Ohio University students. ReUse also collected donations of non-perishable food items which were donated to Good Works. We received so many wonderful donations, and we'd like to thank the Ohio University student community for being so generous!

We'd like to thank all of the people, businesses and organizations who helped to make this year's move-out a success!

Thanks to Avalanche Pizza, Miller's Chicken, CVS, Kroger, Papa John's, Pizza Hut, Taco John's, Quizno's, W.G. Grinder's, D.P. Dough, Ohio University Student Senate, Ohio University Green Network, Ohio University Off-Campus Living Resources, Athens City Services, Athens-area landlords, SEPTA workers and all of our volunteers.

Also, keep checking back for the final numbers on how many pounds of reusable goods were diverted from the landfill!
