‘Did You Know?’Facts of the month: Reducing personal waste is one of the most important and easy environmentally friendly actions individuals can take. When you cut back on personal waste, you save money, landfill space, and energy used to transport and produce goods. For instance, you can significantly reduce the amount of paper you use by simply printing on both sides. Car pooling or riding a bike are simple ways to reduce pollution and cut back on fuel costs. When you donate or purchase merchandise from reuse centers like ReUse Industries, you reduce your own personal waste and reduce resources used to create new products. Upcoming ReUse Events

April 22nd – Earth Day Fundraiser

Celebrate Earth Day with ReUse Industries! ReUse Industries will be celebrating Earth Day with a raffle, games, and live music at Ohio University’s Tiffin and Gamertsfelder halls. The event, which will begin around 7pm and wind down around midnight, is open to the public and free to attend. All funds raised at the event will go towards the purchase of a new truck to haul reusables from campus recycling.

April 26th – National Volunteer Week Event

On April 26th, ReUse Industries will be holding a special service day for national volunteer week - April 23-29. This event, which is part of the Ohio University Center for Community Service’s volunteer tour, is a great way to get outdoors, enjoy spring, and become involved in your local community. The event is from 10am -2pm at ReUse Industries’ Albany location. At 9am Ohio University and community volunteers can meet at the Bunch of Grapes room in Baker Center. After a free breakfast, ReUse Industries and the Center for Community Service will provide transportation to ReUse Industries. Volunteers will help with a variety of outdoor projects, such as a highway cleanup, flower planting, and grounds cleaning. ReUse Industries will be serving refreshments to volunteers. Saturday, May 27 - Community Yard Sale

This year ReUse Industries will be holding The First Annual Community Yard Sale from 10am to 5pm. To register to sell your goods or receive more information, please call (740) 698-8200 extension 10.

Summer Clothing

Why spend more on summer clothing? You can find great shorts, jeans, t-shirts, and other like-new clothing at ReUse Industries’ thrift stores. Furniture Sale

Going on now, 10% off all furniture at all three of ReUse Industries’ locations! This month only ReUse Industries’ already low furniture prices have been reduced even more. Come to any ReUse location for furniture of all types, including couches, easy chairs, tables, and desks!

Special ReUse Center bargains

Here are some of the current deals at ReUse Industries' main Albany location:

Student Desks

Currently, ReUse Industries has several solid oak student desks. The desks, which are all great condition, come in two types and are priced at $28 a piece.

Sears Console Stereo

This stereo, equipped with working record player, radio, and 8 track, was originally purchased in 1974 for $185.12, and it comes with the original manual. The stereo, with the exception of a blown speaker on the left side, still looks, works, and sounds great. The ReUse price is only $40.

Treadmill

This multi-speed treadmill, a pro-form 585 TL low profile, has several special features, such as the ability to take your pulse. ReUse Industries is asking $225.

Sears/Kenmore Sewing Machine

With the exception of a belt needing to be tightened, this antique wood-mounted sewing machine, probably produced in the 50s or 60s, still looks and works great. ReUse Industries is asking $40.

Picnic Table and Outdoor Swing

ReUse Industries’ yard currently has a must see picnic table and wooden swing. ReUse Industries is asking $75 for the picnic table and $65 for the swing.

Raccoon Creek Watershed Cleanups

This past month, ReUse Industries participated in two Raccoon Creek watershed cleanups in Wellston and the Zaleski State Forest. ReUse Industries is proud to do its part to help keep the beautiful creek, which horseshoes around ReUse Industries main location, cleaner for recreation, wildlife, and drinking water. This mont, during National Volunteer Week, ReUse Industries will continue to keep the Raccoon Creek watershed cleaner with a grounds and highway cleanup. During the Community Yard Sale, ReUse Industries will also have special canoe rides on the scenic creek open to the public.

Special Zaleski Pickup

This past month ReUse Industries did a free pickup of several tons of materials from Eckert Girls Camp, located in Zaleski State Forest. The camp, formally a CCC camp, donated several items, including desks, appliances, and other great miscellaneous furniture. Most of the items have already been cleaned, priced, and placed out for sale at all three of ReUse Industries’ locations.

If you live in the city limits of Albany, Athens, Hamden, Jackson, McArthur, The Plains, or Wellston, ReUse Industries will also do free pickups of your reusable materials. All donations are tax-deductible. Call (740) 698-8200 extension 10 today to schedule your free pickup.
