Reuse Art Show
Athens Sustainabilty Festival
Saturday, Sept. 30th; Sunday, Oct. 1st
Athens County Fairgrounds
West Union Street
Athens, OH 45701
Cosponsored by ReUse Industries, the Reuse Art Show is modeled after art shows at ReUse Industries’ Recyclebration Festivals. Dozens of local and national artists will be gathering to display their artwork, ranging from metal sculptures to wire jewelry.
A large feature of the event is P.R. Miller—a reuse artist whose various pieces of reused art have begun to draw attention. Miller, who is nicknamed the “Grizzled Wizard,” has recently had a documentary film made on him: The Grizzled Wizard of Waste Not Want Not. The video will be screened at this year’s documentary festival, and Miller will display several pieces of his work in person at the art show. More information about the documentary can be found at www.joshuatreevideo.com.
Artists interested in displaying artwork can register up to the day of the event. ReUse Industries will be providing artists with a ten-percent-off voucher for displaying their artwork.
For more information or to register your artwork, contact Joe Rad at (740) 591-5253.
From left to right: Max Felsher, Leo DeLuca, Sherri Oliver, and Ben Frese.
ReUse Industries is proud to introduce three new AmeriCorps*VISTA members—Sherri Oliver, Ben Frese, and Leo DeLuca—and reintroduce Max Felsher, a VISTA member that has signed on for a second year of service. VISTAs (Volunteers in Service to America) are full-time volunteers that, through the AmeriCorps program, spend one year of their lives building the capacity of organizations such as ReUse Industries.
Leo DeLuca has a degree in education from Ohio University, is from Dayton, and is a drummer for the local rock group Southeast Engine. He started working with ReUse Industries last summer as an AmeriCorps Summer Associate. As a VISTA Leo, who has several local connections, will be promoting the reuse economy to Ohio University administration and students.
Sherri Oliver is from the Zanesville area and has a political science degree from Ohio University. She is working on ReUse Industries’ community-outreach goals--setting up ReUse Industries’ informational booth at local events, creating and giving presentations, and identifying new outreach outlets inside of local communities.
Ben Frese will be overseeing all of ReUse Industries’ collaboration with other local non-profit organizations. He grew up in Cambridge, Ohio and has degrees in environmental studies and english from the University of the Pacific, located in California’s Central Valley. In his first month of service, Ben’s major goal will be to plan this year’s Make a Difference Day volunteer project.
Max Felsher holds an earth-studies degree from Stanford University. Originally from Boston, Max’s deep commitment to the environment led him to join ReUse Industries’ VISTA program. In his second year of service, Max will administer ReUse Industries’ Community-Collections grant, and he will continue to make ReUse Industries more sustainable and efficient. ________________________________________________________________
