March 2006 E-Newsletter
Did You Know?’Facts of the month:
The reuse of old appliances is good for you, the environment, and the community. Landfilled appliances can contain toxic chemicals, such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), that, if landfilled, could potentially contaminate groundwater. Instead of sending these items to the landfill, you can donate them to non-profit reuse programs such as ReUse Industries. Donors dispose of discarded appliances at little or no cost and receive a tax-deduction. Before ReUse sells appliances back to the community at low cost, a certified repair technician checks and repairs them. Non-repairable appliances are made environmentally safe through a certified freon removal process then recycled.

If you live in the city limits of Albany, Athens, Hamden, Jackson, McArthur, The Plains, or Wellston, ReUse Industries will do a free pickup of your used appliances. For a limited time, ReUse is waiving its $10 freon removal charge. ReUse Industries accepts fully assembled appliances that work or are repairable. Call (740) 698-8200 extension 10 today to schedule your free pickup.

Charity Serving at the Red Brick Tavern
On March 13th from 6 pm to 9 pm, ReUse Industries’ VISTAs and volunteers will be serving tables at the Red Brick Tavern in uptown Athens. All tips will go towards the purchase of a truck to haul reusables from campus recycling at Ohio University.
The truck will replace “Big Bird,” a 1973 international box-truck donated to ReUse Industries in 1993. Partnering with campus recycling, Big Bird has recovered 882 tons of reusables. Your tips at the Red Brick Tavern will help ReUse Industries continue this relationship.
